Every drop of wastewater goes through a lot - your bill pays for more than just the cost of cleaning the wastewater you use, it means our teams can work around-the-clock to maintain thousands of kilometres of sewer network, as well as our water recycling pipes, pumps and sites across our region to keep your toilets flushing and drains flowing.
Our teams clear 1 blockage every 15 minutes from the sewers. But 80% of blockages are avoidable if we all just bin it.
Our Smart Sewer Programme
To help us prevent sewer flooding, bad smells and protect your local community and environment, we use state-of-the-art sewer robot cameras to check the condition of the pipes and use smart sewer technology that alert us about potential blockages.
And this work never stops – our teams are regularly clearing and cleaning the pipes so we can keep wastewater on the move back to our recycling centres to be treated, cleaned and recycled back to nature.
Working with local communities
We’re working with businesses across the region, from your local chippy and your favourite restaurants to stop used cooking oil entering the sewer network. Together so far, we've stopped a whopping 4 million litres of fat, oil and grease – that’s like two Olympic sized swimming pools.
Working in your area
The sewer network is huge and although our teams work around-the-clock, we can’t be everywhere. That’s why we’re working with approved partners to help keep sewers in tip top condition.
